By Frances Hodgson Burnett
Mary Lennox, sour old
girl who gets everything she wants. She is spoiled and stubborn, and
completely self centered. But is it all her fault?
Mary lived
India tell she was ten. Her mother and father did not care for her. she
grew up with servants who obey her every whim.
When Mary is ten years old the cholera breaks out in India. Everyone she knew dies. She becomes an orphan.
She
is sent off to live with her uncle, old hunched back Archibald Craven.
Mary has never heard of this Archibald Craven before, so its a bit of a
mystery.
Going from being the center of every servant around to having to dress herself, Mary learns many lessons.
One of the sweetest, most trusting servants, Martha tells Mary about a garden that has been locked up for ten years.
The
Garden belonged to Mr. Craven's wife, and when she died, he locked it
up buried the key, and no one has set foot in the garden for ten years.
Mary
Lennox is determined to find a way into the garden. Along the way Mary
will meet new friends, encounter new creatures and discover what it
means to be happy.
This book is a well known classic.
Its very intriguing and magical. The characters seemed to come to life.
And the garden formed in my own head.
