Christmas at Harrington's
By Melody Carlson
In
this short story, Melody Carlson weaves a tale of redemption and
forgiveness. She leads the reader through the life of Lena, an
ex-convict, who was falsely accused and falsely witnessed against by her
husband. She travels to New Haven, Minnesota, far away from her
hometown. She wants to start over in life, but finds that the job she
was traveling towards is no longer available. In fact, the store may
close. But then she gets offered a job as "Mrs. Santa" until someone
finds out that she is an ex-convict. She finds herself to be without a
job once again but is God leading in her life, even in this time? She
finds an unlikely friend on the bus, offers hope to a little girl with
cancer, and enables a single mom to get a job, and in the process, finds
herself a friend. Will she find hope for herself this Christmas season
though, starting over in a new town?
Note: her writing style is somewhat lacking but the story still has the capacity to grip you.
