This is one of my favorite books. It is a companion book, or "prequel" to her first published book, Graceling. I just re read it and stayed up really late last night to finish it.

This is a beautifully written book. Kristin Cashore is so talented. She is definitely one of my favorite authors. She writes with strength and grace. Gentle in writing style she introduces thought provoking questions about life, love, and human nature. Cashore will send you on the ride of your life with plenty of plot twists and turns. I believe that Kristin is an up and coming author to watch.

This book is set in the magical land of Dells. The main character is seventeen year old Fire. She is the last human shaped "monster." She is unimaginably beautiful and can control the thoughts and actions of all that surround her. Fire has a dangerous power to manipulate humans in unbelievable ways. However, Fire is not like most monsters in Dells. She attempts to reject this power that she views as evil. Secrets from her past threaten to tear her and her whole existence apart. What will this young woman discover on her journey to womanhood?

Be ready for an adventure that is wonderful to sink your teeth into. I hope you enjoy this!
